Big Data for Tourism
Malaga is one of the emerging destinations with the highest economic growth in Spain, and is currently at a turning point. With its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and business dynamism, the city faces significant challenges in terms of demographics and urban management. Faced with this scenario, ProMálaga, the municipal entity focused on catalyzing entrepreneurship, set out to provide startups in their acceleration programs with a tool that would allow them to integrate information sources. This platform would allow access to valuable tourism datasets, facilitating the development of innovative use cases, products and services.
At WhiteBox, we embark on a meticulous task of analyzing and cleaning the data collected by the Malaga City Council, from weather patterns to the dynamics of the real estate sector and passenger movements in land, sea and air transport. Our goal was to create a coherent database rich in relevant information for startups in the tourism sector.
The creation of an interactive dashboard was the next step, designed not only to visualize data but to inspire and facilitate the development of practical solutions by ProMálaga startups. We implemented demonstration use cases that ranged from identifying strategic locations for new businesses to optimizing advertising strategies, demonstrating the path to innovation and operational efficiency.
The result has been a transformative tool for the companies incubated by ProMálaga. With access to an organized data catalog and a functional dashboard, these companies have managed to enrich their offerings, integrating advanced data analysis into their applications and services. This development represents a qualitative leap in the way of conceiving and executing commercial strategies in the tourism sector in the city of Malaga.
