SkillSync
EIT Health faced the challenge of finding an upskilling solution with a European approach that would allow startups driven by the organization to scale their competencies in the technologies that are redefining the business landscape. Especially in the healthcare sector, there was a pressing lack of qualified personnel in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Blockchain. The process for finding and recommending training courses that existed at EIT was arduous and manual, involving the selection and classification of courses from multiple online sources, resulting in inefficient management and a great deal of time consumption.
WhiteBox addressed the problem by first developing automated extraction engines, capable of collecting and updating course information available on online platforms and prestigious universities. Subsequently, NLP models were developed to identify the skills taught in each course, based on ESCO, an ontology specific to the European Union. This process was enriched with automatic and human annotations combining the best of both approaches, achieving a precise identification of skills. The final touch was a personalized recommendation system, which suggests courses based on current knowledge of startups, the competencies of other similar companies, and the wide range of courses available, creating a hybrid recommendation model based on both collaborative filtering and content.
SkillSync has transformed a manual and cumbersome process into a fully automated solution, allowing EIT to provide relevant and personalized training to its accelerated startups. The savings in hours of manual work and the efficiency in recommending courses are just some of the outstanding benefits, marking a before and after for this European organization.
